Ogden Nash was a very clever poet of a different sort. You can call his rhymes a little silly, but I see them as truth with a smile.
I'll give you two of his jolly rhymes,
Before I make you suffer through mine.
From Ogden Nash:
The fly
God in his wisdom made the fly
And then forgot to tell us why
A Word to Husbands
To keep your marriage brimming
With love in the loving cup,
Whenever you’re wrong, admit it;
Whenever you’re right, shut up.

And now my poor rhymes to follow
Knowing it may be hard to swallow
But please try to smile and don't call it trash
After all, I am no Ogden Nash
I liked this poem when I wrote it
But I was drunk at the time
My professor didn't like it a bit
He said nothing I wrote could rhyme
But to me it sounded just fine
I awoke with a wide open yawn
Only to find it's not dawn
So I jumped out of bed
Turning pages I read
And found it was really quite sad
But reading at midnight it's really not bad
I once knew a woman, Lenore
But I'll stop it right there
Because I think you've heard it before
I don't like dogs that shed
Especially when one's in my bed
But now that Rover is dead
The only hairs on the bed
Are the ones on top of my heard.
Do yourself a favor! Read some more of Ogden Nash's poetry and try to do some yourself!
